“What you give ought to be in direct relationship to what you’ve received. If you have been blessed with a great deal, then you have a lot of giving to do.” – Johnnetta B. Cole

This ethos of giving back what one has received is embodied in the Royal College Union fraternity, who delight in giving their time and resources to their beloved alma mater. They acknowledge that ‘mother’ Royal has given each student so much and it is each Royalist’s duty to give back. The beauty of reciprocity first starts by giving. Royal College nurtures its sons to becoming men of stature, and it is these men who strive to give back in countless measure.

As such, the Loyalty Pledge for instance is symbolic of ‘Repaying’ the ‘Debt’ owed to the Royal College, by students who have ‘learnt of books and men’ and have ‘learnt to play the game’. Royal College has a proud history of service not only to the college but to different strata of society in Sri Lanka. Thus each Royalist has it ingrained in their hearts and minds to serve the ‘school of their fathers’ and also mother Lanka with pride, equanimity and love.
