The 48th annual Royal Thomian Regatta will take place this Saturday, 28 October 2017, at its traditional venue, The Colombo Rowing Club.
The annual regatta between Royal College, Colombo and St Thomas’ College, Mt Lavinia began in 1962 as the Royal Thomian Boat Race and has transitioned into its current format that consists of 8 events.
The races are rowed over a distance of 1000 yards and take place on the Beira Lake in Colombo. The Royal Thomian Regatta is the oldest inter-school rowing regatta in Sri Lanka, with Royal being the first school to take up rowing in the country.
The Boat Race is the most prestigious event on the schedule, it is rowed for the Royal Thomian Boat Race Trophy also known as the ‘Crossed Oars’. The overall winner of the Regatta is awarded the T. Noel Fernando Memorial Trophy.
The Regatta is the 3rd longest running sporting encounter between Royal College and S. Thomas’ College, after the Battle of the Blues Cricket Encounter and the annual Rugby Encounter.
We look forward to seeing all of you there to cheer our team to victory!
