It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jayantha de Z. Gunasekera, respected President’s Counsel and Emeritus Vice President of the Royal College Union.
Mr. Gunasekera passed away peacefully at his residence on 19 March 2026 and was cremated at a private ceremony held on 22 March 2026. Born in 1937, he was widely admired for his distinguished legal career, his unwavering commitment to public service, and his generosity of spirit.
A beloved son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gunasekera of Kosgoda Dassanayake Walauwe, he was known as an affectionate brother, devoted husband to Vineetha, loving father to Thinushka, and a cherished relative and friend to many. His sharp intellect, prodigious memory, and remarkable gift for storytelling made him a highly sought-after adviser and a respected figure in professional and social circles.
As family, friends, and colleagues mourn his loss, they remember a man whose integrity, warmth, and wisdom left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
May he attain Nirvana.
