Ranil Wijesekera Challenge Trophy

The Royal-Thomian Badminton Encounter began in 2007. The first Encounter concluded in a victory for the Royal Team, captained by I. Nimalachandra.

In 2010, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. L. Wijesekera donated the prestigious trophy in memory of Mr. Ranil Wijesekera, who had captained the College Badminton Team in 1976.

Throughout 14 battles, the Royal-Thomian Badminton Encounter has come to an epitomise the resilience of the two contending schools.

The Royalists scored a clean sweep victory at the 10th Encounter, a milestone in the history of the tournament.

As of the most recent encounter, Royal College has secured 12 victories, including a remarkable streak of 10 consecutive wins, while S. Thomas’ College has triumphed on two occasions.
