Coinciding with Royal College celebrating a century of playing Tennis, the Group of ’96 completed the construction of a state-of-the-art tennis court complex and handed it over to the college.
This monumental feat was a possibility on account of the Royal College Old Boys of East Coast Foundation (RCOBECA) in the USA stepping forward to fund the project through one of its active and eminent members, Dr. Sukumar Nagendran who graciously sponsored. the entire project at a cost of USD 260,128. The complex includes two all-weather, hard tennis courts. The project is a collaborative effort of the RCOBECA and the Royal College Tennis Advisory and Management Committee.
Dr Nagendran, or Dr Suku as the Group fondly calls him, was a former Tennis player and coloursman of Royal College. Today he is an accomplished physician, pharmaceutical developer and biotech executive, pioneering breakthroughs in gene therapy as President, R&D and Chief Medical Officer at Jaguar Gene therapy.
