134th Anniversary of the Royal College Union (RCU)

Today the 17th of January marks a momentous occasion for Royalists worldwide as it marks the 134th anniversary of the Royal College Union (RCU). Established in 1891, the RCU is one of the oldest alumni associations in Sri Lanka and stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of camaraderie, loyalty, and service of Royal College and its past pupils.

The RCU serves as the central body uniting the diverse network of local and international old boys’ associations, ensuring that Royalists, no matter where they are, remain connected to their alma mater and its legacy. Its expansive reach highlights the commitment of the global Royalist community to support the institution that molded their character and values.

Beyond its role as a unifying force, the RCU actively contributes to the development of Royal College through its various advisory committees. These committees oversee a wide range of activities, from sports to cultural and academic initiatives, providing expertise and guidance to uphold the high standards of the school.

A school of such magnitude and excellence, home to thousands of students, requires resources, expertise, and support to maintain its stature. The RCU plays a pivotal role in this regard, assisting in managing key infrastructure, organizing iconic events like the Royal-Thomian and Bradby Shield Encounter, and spearheading numerous development projects.

The RCU’s involvement ensures that the legacy of Royal College continues to flourish.

On this significant day, we appreciate the Royal College Union for its invaluable contributions over the past 134 years and wish it many more years of service to the College and its ever-growing community of Royalists.
